Scott Foil. On Sale Now at Cycle Station!
Velo’s wind tunnel data showed that the SCOTT Foil, in spite of it’s fatter tube shapes, actually performed quite well in terms of drag coefficient. It comfortably held its own against more ‘traditionally’ designed, NACA shaped bikes, with only Cervelo consistently scoring better in the wind.
But when the Velo testers moved the bikes to a jig to measure frame deflection, the SCOTT Foil easily outshined its competitors. Its 3:2 tube profiles provided a level a stiffness unmatched by any of the others in the test. Notably, the winner in the wind tunnel, the Cervelo, came out the loser in terms of frame stiffness.
The Foil scored well in both drag and stiffness tests, but in the end it won the Velo Editors’ Pick because it was the bike in the test that rode the best. Testers felt that it rode the way a race bike ought to, and it provided an aero benefit to boot. Straight up, the Foil was the best all around bike in the test.
